Unlocking Women and Technology Hosts 2-Day Masterclass in Nairobi- Kenya #UWATNairobi

We’re excited to announce that Unlocking Women & Technology will launch its first ever 2-day masterclass in Nairobi, Kenya in May 2019. Working in strategic partnership with one of Nairobi’s newest hubs, Kayana, this transformational masterclass is aimed at equipping early-stage women-in-business with business growth and digital marketing strategies to help accelerate the growth of their businesses.

 

Dates: Friday 24th May and Saturday 25th May 2019 (2-day training)

 

Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm (both days)

 

Cost: No charge (Registration is required)

 

Venue: Kayana, Chania Avenue (off Ring Road Kilimani), Nairobi, Kenya

Our vision is perfectly aligned with Kayana's community of female entrepreneurs who come together to move their businesses from ideation to start-up. Typically the businesses will be run from their homes or online, and the founders are looking at the next step of growth, but may not have the know-how or courage to do so.

 

 

Who is This Masterclass For?
If you believe that ‘time is money’ and want the right business and tech tools and skills to accelerate growth, then this masterclass is for you. We aim to share useful business development and digital marketing skills you can apply immediately to help you take your business to the next level. We invite business women who fall under the following categories to join us:

  • Years in Business: 1 - 2 years

  • Sectors: Retail, eCommerce, Fashion, Agriculture, FinTech

  • Revenue: Have made at least $1,000 in profit a year (KES100,000)

  • Offering: Product or service

Hands On Experience
UWAT masterclasses are practical and the facilitators will use a
step-by-step approach to show you how to grow your business and navigate the online space. In 3 years, we have trained a total of over 350 women in Ghana and Nigeria, and are very excited about reaching more women in Kenya.

 

 

Why You Need This Training 

Globalisation has forced small-businesses to up-level their business growth strategies. Digital marketing has become an integral part of growing any business, both product or service based. Without marketing it's difficult to attract the right clients. Getting a high return on investing in marketing is of great concern to small-business owners, particularly in Africa. Every penny counts. Knowing where and how to allocate your marketing budget could be the difference between success and failure. We are passionate about helping women understand how to navigate the increasingly competitive global marketing through strategic business development and tech skills - without having to be 'techie'.

 

 

What You Can Expect

 

DAY 1: Smart Strategies for Business Growth (4 hours)

  • Positioning for Profit - Understand brand positioning and the impact it has on the growth of your business / brand. Also, learn how to clearly define the brand pillars that will underpin interaction with customers, partners and the general public.

  • Pitch Perfect - Crafting and presenting a compelling value proposition that connects, convinces and converts customers, potential joint venture partners and investors. With a clear value proposition, selling your product or service becomes less stressful and more profitable.

  • Presentation & Packaging - Moving on from brand positioning this looks at how your brand message is communicated visually online and offline - social media, websites, presentation decks, capabilities briefs, video, audio and written communication. 

  • Pricing & Profitability - We explore the money stories that hold entrepreneurs back (especially women) and share money mindset mastery tips before learning learning how to price products or services for profit.

 

 

DAY 2: Digital Marketing for Entrepreneurs (4 hours)
(Participants will need a laptop, tablet or smart device)

  • Basics of growing your business online

  • SEO and SEM

  • Understanding Micro-moments

  • Digital marketing strategy

  • Social media marketing 

  • Google My Business (GMB)

     

     

After completing the 2-day masterclass, all delegates receive a certificate of participation from 'Unlocking Women and Technology'.
 

 

Meet Your Facilitators

 

Noreen Makosewe 

Noreen Makosewe is a sought-after international Strategy Advisor, Keynote Speaker and Tech Inclusion Advocate who specialises in helping brands, business leaders and boards design smart strategies to start-up, scale-up or streamline processes for operational efficiency and increased profitability. She spent 15 years working at different Fortune 100 companies and set up The Radical Leap Company, a boutique strategy advisory and consulting company. She now has 10+ years experience working with senior leaders & business owners from a broad range of organisations across 5 continents and shares thoughts and insights at business & leadership conferences, as well as on media platforms like newspapers, radio & TV. Favour Nma Ozichukwu 

Favour Nma Ozichukwu is a Management Consultant, Operations Manager at iSpace Foundation and HR professional with vast multi-industry knowledge, Africa-wide. She currently serves as the Team Lead Manager for iSpace flagship program, Unlocking Women and Technology, executing strategic initiatives in enabling women gain access to business and tech training, mentorship, and access to funding. She holds a BSc in Human Resource Management from Pentecost University College, Ghana and a couple of certifications in Operations Management & Sustainability. Outside of her current work, Favour's passion for Community Development and Capacity Building evolves around her volunteering hours for mentoring sessions, speaking engagement and workshops. She is also a Budding EduTech Advocate.

 

 

 

John Wanjala  

John Wanjala is responsible for digital marketing consultancy and lead facilitator for Google Digital Skills for Africa program at Africa 118 Company strategic theme of “Leading capacity building and Business Incubation Provider.”  This includes the online strategy, marketing websites, Search Engine Optimization & Search Engine Marketing, Social media marketing. He serves as a lead facilitator in Nairobi and environs where he has been able to train over 5,000 MSMEs within Kenya on ways to make most positive use of the web.  
 
Prior to this, John worked for Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) as an Entrepreneurship Facilitator that was supporting the youth through Start Up skills and Computer Literacy. He also served as an Environmental Specialist for DOT in Nakuru County, before accepting the role of leadership and empowerment programs with USAID. As a volunteer, he mentored youths and start-ups on how to develop sustainable businesses in relation to the SDGs.   John holds a BA in Economics from Moi University. He also earned CPA 4 from Kericho College of Accountancy. He is receptive and passionate towards youth and women towards economics and social empowerment in technology.
